Not really. These investors are more interested in land than an idea. But at least you should have a professional team (not necessarily in the full-time engaged in the activity, but now willing to accept this obligation must venture capital funds reached), a prototype of your product or service and / or results of proof of concept, a patentability advice from a lawyer experienced in patent law (if any) show and a business plan which, as you and your team can start a business of several million dollars can be three to seven years.

Also note that the majority of investors (rather invest in venture capital in large operations from about 5 million) and indeed some 20 million U.S. dollars. The consequences are twofold. First, you must have a management team experienced in dealing with projects of several million dollars. Second, you should be a society that would be worthwhile to create dozens or hundreds of millions of dollars in recent years.

Yes

The first step is a good well written business plan.

If you do not, you are not ready.

I wonder what kind of change that could make my investment and how long and what are the risks.

I would rather see three scenarios, a pessimistic, optimistic and middle of the street.

Usually Capitialists Venture Fund established small businesses, but also its price. Existing companies rarely listen to ideas from outside.
Good luck with your idea!
